CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS IN THE SÓLLER VALLEY
HOW TO EXPERIENCE CHRISTMAS TO THE FULLEST!
Christmas in the Sóller Valley is an experience that goes far beyond the festive dates themselves. It is a time when tradition, culture, and community life blend with the landscape of the Serra de Tramuntana, creating a unique, authentic, and deeply Mediterranean atmosphere. From late November until Three Kings’ Day, Sóller is transformed into a setting filled with light, music, aromas, and shared emotions.
CHRISTMAS IN THE TOWN CENTER
The Nadal i Reis d’Orient program in Sóller is extensive, diverse, and designed for all ages. For weeks, the town square, streets, and cultural venues host activities that revive ancestral traditions while also incorporating contemporary proposals.
One of the most eagerly awaited events is the Fira de la Il·lusió, held in early December in Plaça Constitució and the surrounding streets. This event officially marks the start of the Christmas season with craft markets, children’s workshops, musical performances, cultural displays, and gastronomic offerings. It is a meeting point for families, visitors, and locals alike, where imagination and excitement take center stage.
In the days that follow, the square and other iconic venues such as the Centre Victòria, the Casal de Cultura, and the Guillem Colom i Ferrà Municipal Library host creative workshops, storytelling sessions, Christmas carol concerts, charity activities, and theatrical performances, many of them aimed at family audiences.
TRADITION, MUSIC, AND COMMUNITY SPIRIT
Music is an essential part of Christmas in Sóller. The program includes numerous Christmas concerts, both in churches and outdoor spaces, featuring choirs, local bands, and musical groups. Particularly noteworthy are the performances at the Parish of Sant Bartomeu and the church in Port de Sóller, where traditional carols fill December nights with emotion, as well as the Christmas Eve concerts in Plaça Constitució.
Traditional dances, street parades, and activities linked to popular culture also play a prominent role, reinforcing the sense of identity and belonging within the valley. All of this turns every stroll through the historic center into a lively and ever changing experience.
CHRISTMAS WITH THE FAMILY
Sóller pays special attention to activities for children. Throughout December, children’s workshops, play areas, Christmas crafts, educational and charitable activities are organized, along with charming events such as visits from Christmas characters and the arrival of the Royal Postman.
The Fàbrica de Gelats, located in Plaça del Mercat next to the Gran Hotel Sóller, becomes another Christmas hub, hosting creative workshops, children’s concerts, and charity initiatives linked to local schools.
These initiatives reflect the Christmas spirit of the Sóller Valley and its commitment to a participatory, educational, and inclusive celebration.
NEW YEAR’S EVE AND WELCOMING THE NEW YEAR
The celebrations continue through the end of the year with special events such as the New Year’s Eve Party, the traditional Sant Silvestre race, festive activities in Plaça Constitució, and musical performances that bid farewell to the year in a joyful and safe atmosphere. They also offer the chance to celebrate the midnight countdown in the town square and then enjoy live music under the large marquee set up for the occasion.
THE MAGIC OF THE THREE KINGS
The highlight of Christmas in Sóller arrives with the eagerly awaited Cavalcada dels Reis d’Orient (Three Kings Parade), one of the most emotional events on the calendar. On January 5th, Their Majesties first arrive at Port de Sóller and then make their way through the streets of the town to Plaça Constitució, accompanied by music, lights, and the excitement of children and adults alike.
The parade route passes through key points of the historic center, very close to the Gran Hotel Sóller.

The celebration concludes on January 6th with Epiphany masses and religious ceremonies that keep alive a tradition deeply rooted in local culture. Enjoying Christmas in this corner of the Serra de Tramuntana allows visitors to discover the local traditions of this special celebration.
It is a unique experience to get to know the cultural and social life of the valley, stroll through beautifully decorated streets, take part in scheduled events, and unwind in one of the most emblematic municipalities on the north coast of Mallorca.
