A PERFECT PLAN TO ENJOY THE BARRANC DE BINIARAIX!
One of the greatest attractions of the Sóller Valley is, without a doubt, hiking in the Serra de Tramuntana. With countless routes for all levels, this enclave on the northern coast of Mallorca is a paradise for mountain sports and nature lovers. Whether enjoying the coastal routes that offer incredible views of the Mediterranean Sea or others that transport us through historic paths among ancient olive trees and majestic mountains.
Today, we will talk about one of these routes, perhaps one of the most iconic. A route we invite you to discover and enjoy in a unique and very special way, as it not only allows us to hike along one of the most emblematic paths of the Serra de Tramuntana but also to stop along the way to taste local olive oil and enjoy a personalized menu cooked on-site in a privileged location in the Serra de Tramuntana. Welcome to the excursion to Ca’n Sivella through the Barranc de Biniaraix!
CA’N SIVELLA
Ca’n Sivella is much more than a wonderful estate located halfway through the Barranc de Biniaraix; it is an environmental project focused on landscape recovery and the production of 100% extra virgin olive oil. This project was initiated about five years ago by Felip and Natalia, a couple passionate about nature and the landscape surrounding the Serra de Tramuntana.
Determined to take care of this corner of the Barranc de Biniaraix, they dedicate themselves to restoring the olive grove, healing the olive trees, growing fruits and vegetables, and producing olive oil—a project we invite you to discover for yourself.
HOW TO GET TO CA’N SIVELLA
To visit Ca’n Sivella, the first step is to schedule an appointment with Felip and Natalia. You can contact them through their Instagram page: @cansivella, or by calling Natalia at +34 674 94 24 88. Since the couple lived in Mexico and North America for a long time, they speak several languages, making it easier to arrange a visit to the estate.
On the day of the visit, we will wake up early for breakfast at the Gran Hotel Sóller and begin our route around 9:30 AM from Carrer de Sa Lluna towards Biniaraix, a small village we will reach after about 20 minutes on foot. Once there, we will take the Camí del Barranc de Biniaraix, the most special part of our route.
After about 30 to 40 minutes, depending on our pace, we will reach a fork in the path. There, we will see an information sign for Ca’n Sivella, right next to another legendary estate in the Barranc de Biniaraix: Ca’n Silles. From this point, we will continue uphill for about five more minutes to reach Ca’n Sivella.
THE CA’N SIVELLA EXPERIENCE
Upon arrival at Ca’n Sivella, we will be greeted by Natalia, our host, who will welcome us with refreshing wet towels to wipe away sweat from our forehead and hands. We will then enter the estate through the main entrance, where we will meet Felip, our other host and chef for the visit. From the very start, Natalia and Felip will make us feel at home, offering us a local beer or water on the front terrace of the house. This terrace offers incredible views of the Sóller Valley and the Barranc de Biniaraix, where we will also enjoy an appetizer of cured meats and other seasonal local products.
After our appetizer, Natalia and Felip will introduce us to the Ca’n Sivella project, followed by a tasting of their homemade olive oil. Before leaving, we will have the opportunity to purchase some of this high-quality olive oil, available in various bottle sizes to suit our needs.
DINING AT CA’N SIVELLA
After the olive oil tasting, we will move to the back terrace. This cozy space houses a barbecue and a traditional wood-fired oven—the spot where we will enjoy our tasting menu.
It is important to note that the tasting menu and its options must be selected on the day we book our visit to Ca’n Sivella. Due to its incredible and privileged location, Felip must transport all the necessary ingredients and supplies in advance, a process that takes two hours to descend to Biniaraix and three hours to return to Ca’n Sivella.
During our tasting menu, we will savor Mediterranean and local cuisine, with dishes prepared on the spot using top-quality ingredients. Additionally, we will have the opportunity to choose from a selection of wines from various wineries across the islands, offered by Felip and Natalia.
After our meal, we will enjoy a relaxing moment in a stunning setting in the Serra de Tramuntana, chatting with Felip and Natalia about their project and other topics before beginning our descent.
RETURN TO GRAN HOTEL SÓLLER
Finally, after our experience at Ca’n Sivella, we will start our descent back to the Gran Hotel Sóller. We will follow the same path as our ascent, taking approximately 25 to 30 minutes to reach Biniaraix. Once there, with our 100% extra virgin olive oil in hand, we will continue descending toward the center of the Sóller Valley, reaching Carrer de Sa Lluna.
From Carrer de Sa Lluna, we will walk towards Plaça Constitució, arriving at the heart of the Sóller Valley in about 10 minutes. From there, we will continue to the Mercado Square, located right next to the Gran Hotel Sóller, marking the end of our excursion to Ca’n Sivella!
The excursion to Ca’n Sivella is much more than a hiking route through the majestic Barranc de Biniaraix. It is an experience that highlights the importance of preserving our environment and appreciating nature’s generosity by providing us with incredible natural products. A unique experience to enjoy gastronomy and discover the local essence.
