Would you like to discover the most traditional and authentic Mallorca? At Gran Hotel Soller, we suggest one of the most charming visits you can make on our island: the rural market of Sineu and the breathtaking landscapes of the Formentor peninsula, the Mirador des Colomer and the north of Mallorca.

Sineu Market

The Sineu Market is one of the oldest rural markets in Mallorca. This traditional market has been held in the village of Sineu for centuries. Fruits, vegetables, traditional Mallorcan cuisine, clothes, tools and typical handicrafts are some of the wonders you will find if you take a stroll through one of the most authentic villages on the island.

The market is held every Wednesday morning from 8 am to 1 pm in the Plaza del Merçat, in Sineu. It is a unique moment to do some original shopping, visit the village or have lunch in one of its most typical restaurants, Celler Can Font, near the main square.

Formentor

The cape of Formentor is a must-see and one of the most incredible natural spectacles on the island. It is located in the north, at the northernmost tip of Mallorca, and its cliffs, lush forests and panoramic views of the Mediterranean, which meets the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, will undoubtedly be unforgettable.

Some of the most beautiful places to visit in Formentor are:

Mirador des Colomer

Built in 1961, this is one of the most renowned and famous sights in Mallorca. It offers a panoramic view of the Cape of Formentor and the Mediterranean Sea in all its splendour. Dizzying, liberating and natural are some of the adjectives that best describe this place. It is ideal to visit early in the morning to avoid the crowds or in the afternoon to enjoy a film-like sunset.

Formentor Lighthouse

This spectacular lighthouse stands some 210 metres above the cape of Formentor and is one of the most remote places on the island. Since its inauguration in 1863, the Formentor lighthouse has been an object of inspiration for artists and poets such as Miquel Costa i Llobera, who was inspired by the Formentor area to write one of his most famous poems, Pi de Formentor.

Other options very close to Formentor to complete the excursion are:

Pollença: in this small municipality in the north of the island you can enjoy a quiet stroll through Port de Pollença or relax on one of the 16 paradisiacal beaches on offer, such as Cala Figuera or Cala Murta. Take the opportunity to visit the town and admire some of its most traditional buildings and spots, such as the Roman Bridge, a stone bridge that crosses the Sant Jordi stream.

Alcúdia: one of the most famous towns on the Mallorcan coast, it has spectacular beaches and a great gastronomic offer, as well as a historical heritage that is well worth discovering. Amongst others, the walls of Alcúdia, built during the 14th century by King Jaume II, stand out. The medieval walls of Alcúdia are, without a doubt, a historical enclave of great beauty due to their location near the coast and their perfect conservation.

Playa de Muro: located between Port de Alcúdia and Can Picafort, Playa de Muro is a wide beach of white sand and turquoise waters, of great clarity and transparency. It has an interesting peculiarity: for the water to cover you, you will have to walk quite far out to sea, which is perfect for a quiet walk along the shore and to enjoy a day with the family playing games, practising sports or simply relaxing on its shallow shore.

For lunch, we recommend a stop at the Mediterranean restaurant Poderosa Beach, in Playa de Muro, which specialises in paellas and rice dishes. It is also ideal for a mid-afternoon snack or cocktail.

Finally, after a full day of sightseeing in and around the north of Mallorca, we recommend a quiet dinner on the terrace of the restaurant Ca'n Blau or if you would like to dine out, we recommend a drink in the Lobby Bar, to finish the evening at the Gran Hotel Soller.

We will be delighted to help you at the hotel reception for any questions, information or queries about the best routes or transport to get to Sineu and Formentor, about its cultural and gastronomic offer and, of course, about the most beautiful and interesting places to visit.
